Introducing Fairlawn Chiropractor Dr. Matthew Pramik

The Chiropractor to See in Akron

"My mom and dad thought it was purely a short burst of excitement that would soon fade, but for me, it didn't."

At the young age of 15, I developed pain in the lower back and legs that was frequently debilitating and caused me to miss out on some of the many sports and activities that a teenager does. Nine months plus of agony and visits to several "specialists" proved ineffective and the frustrations and pain continued to wear at me. One day, my father sat me down and discussed the idea that he and my mother had about trying this "old time Chiropractor" that had worked a"miracle" on my grandmother that had a severely pinched nerve of the neck years prior. Little did I know at that time just how MANY people in my family had back related issues and had sought chiropractic treatment. Heck! I didn't even know what a chiropractor was. So...my father continued to explain what may happen during a treatment, or so he thought he was explaining it right. Anyhow, it was one of the best experiences that could have ever happened to me. My entire first experience, and subsequent ones, were awe inspiring to me. The moment I received my first adjustment, I felt the energy re-enter the lower part of my body which had been disconnected for what seemed to be forever. I told my parents that this is something special and that I really would like to be able to help people like this someday.

Needless to say, I quickly started my career path toward becoming a chiropractor right out of high school. Growing up in Tallmadge, Ohio, I chose to enroll at Kent State University and in the Bachelor of Human Biology program. At the same time, I became employed as a chiropractic assistant at a local office to gain "real office experience" and because I was quite intrigued in chiropractic by this time. After fulfilling and successfully completing all of my prerequisites for entry into chiropractic college, I applied and was accepted to Logan College of Chiropractic, St. Louis, Missouri. I chose Logan because of its strong commitment to educating the student and on its reputation for graduating students with the strongest of clinical competency and proper delivery of treatments. To this day, I am extremely proud and grateful for my education, which continues to grow. I have referred several prospective students to my Alma Mater Logan. I believe in that school and what it represents!

Our philosophy is "old school" health care. You know, the kind your parents and grandparents talk about. The kind of doctor and staff that remembers your name and of those you refer, wishes you "happy birthday" and acknowledges meaningful days, asks "how's your mother, the kids, the job, etc.", respects your time and your appointment. Yes, we're the kind of office that delivers personal quality health care to you and your family. We don't want just YOU being healthy. We want your family healthy! We want to gain your confidence and trust so that you are happy to tell others of your experience. We want you to know that we believe that health begins with YOU, the individual. And that people like Us can help make a huge difference by restoring normal joint and nerve function and at the same time teaching people the truth about health. Once we achieve better body function, it's a darn good idea to maintain it! Stretching, exercises, mindful awareness, breath awareness, tension control, nutritional considerations, sleep habits, hydration and water intake, lifestyle habits and an occasional chiropractic "tune-up/check-up" usually keeps our patients feeling better than most. Imagine how lucky I am showing up for work every day to experience the joy of helping individuals and families achieve and maintain a higher level of health! And you know what? IT WORKS!!! Our patients have more energy, sleep better, feel better, get sick less, complain less, and are genuinely more happy and healthy. We care about that! We care about you.

Good health begins at home. A good home begins with family. My wife Kelly and I have three beautiful children Alison, A.J., and Emma! Yes, everyone gets adjusted regularly. Hey, I said I believe in it . The kids are treated 1-2x/month and my wife about 3-4x/month. If someone is becoming ill or has an incident, an additional treatment may be delivered. We do a lot with nutritional supplementation as well; both on a daily maintenance basis and for acute illness and or injuries. As for myself, I get adjusted 1x weekly. I feel great after a treatment and I enjoy a higher level of energy and function than most. People often ask "How do you do all of that, and stay so upbeat?" I tell them regular adjustments, vitamins, fruits and vegetables, daily stretching, regular exercise, proper water intake, and PMA (positive mental attitude). We attend church regularly as a family and this also keeps the mind and spirit healthy. As for personal hobbies and fun time: The local gym is a three day a week routine. Good core and body strength is key to maintaining my personal structural health. Aerobic exercise keeps the heart, lungs, blood, lymph, organs, and mind functioning at par. The family dog Casey makes sure that cardiovascular exercise is kept daily. She loves to walk, and sniff, and sniff. Did I mention Casey likes to sniff? Kelly, my wife, enjoys the physioball at home and walking Casey also. Our kids, well they're kids! Hip/Hop dance, ballet, soccer, basketball, volleyball, piano, clarinet, and art design keep them pretty busy. We encourage physical activity and exercise as part of a daily habit. Proper rest is also a huge factor in kids health. You'd be surprised at just what "a good night's sleep" regularly will do for your kid's health. Oh, by the way, we eat a majority of Organic and whole foods. We limit junk food and respect its' harmful effects on the body. Kelly is a wonderful incredible cook and prepares food that is quite tasty and healthy. One of the many wonderful benefits of knowing her. We are also a family who is health conscious of cleaning chemicals and personal care products. There are many out there that are toxic to us and the environment. We also recycle regularly and respect nature and our environment. It's part of our wholistic thinking.

Dr. Pramik Asks some important questions of interest to Fairlawn residents - Chiropractor Fairlawn Dr. Pramik Asks...

Can those with osteoporosis get chiropractic care?
Of course. When developing a care plan, we consider the unique circumstances of each patient. There are many ways we can adjust the spine. The chiropractic method we select will be best suited to your age, size and unique situation.
Is a muscle spasm a cause or an effect?
With the knee-jerk use of muscle relaxers, you'd think it was a cause. But it's an effect. Chiropractors know that bones don't move unless muscles move them. And muscles don't contract unless commanded by the nervous system. That's why your nervous system is the focus of our Fairlawn chiropractic practice.
